Policing Authority appoints Assistant Commissioner in the Garda Síochána

The Policing Authority is pleased to announce that at its meeting yesterday, it appointed Patrick Clavin to the rank of Assistant Commissioner in the Garda Síochána. Assistant Commissioner Clavin was appointed to the role of Acting Assistant Commissioner in April 2020 and has had responsibility for Governance and Accountability in the Garda Síochána since that time.

Yesterday’s appointment was made to fill a vacancy in the rank arising from an appointment to Deputy Commissioner earlier this month. The appointment was made following a selection competition that involved a three-staged process, conducted in accordance with the statutory framework and the Authority’s Statement of Practice, arising from which Patrick Clavin was placed on the panel for appointment to the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

The Authority congratulates Assistant Commissioner Clavin and wishes him well in his future career.
