The Policing Authority welcomes the publication today of the report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland and looks forward to reading it in detail. The establishment of the Commission offered a significant opportunity to reflect and consider policing in Ireland. Today’s report examines a broad range of topics, many of which were contained within the Authority’s submission to the Commission including oversight structures, local policing, culture, performance management and training.
The Authority also notes the statement of the Minister of Justice and Equality and welcomes his commitment to engage with agencies whose responsibilities are addressed in the report.
The report will be considered formally by the Authority at its meeting on Thursday September 27.
