The Policing Authority welcomes the advertisement today, Friday 16 October 2020, by the Public Appointments Service (PAS), of the recruitment competition for Deputy Commissioner of the Garda Síochána (2 positions).
The Authority has been requested by the Government to nominate persons for appointment to the position of Deputy Commissioner and has invited the PAS, as required by legislation, to undertake a recruitment and selection process for this purpose in accordance with the requirements relating to knowledge, ability and suitability for the position which have been prepared by the Authority and approved by the Minister for Justice and Equality.
The Deputy Commissioner roles present a great opportunity for the right candidates to contribute to the strategic development of the national policing and security service to meet the internal and external challenges of the 21st century.
The right candidates for these key roles will have the experience, capacity and drive to support the Garda Commissioner in leading and transforming a large complex organisation so that it meets the expectations of the people of Ireland for a modern, professional, accountable and effective police service. In the context of overseeing the delivery of day to day operational policing in an increasingly diverse society, key priorities for the successful candidate will also include: driving and embedding reform; leading cultural change, championing diversity, building managerial capacity; managing resources; and enhancing governance and accountability.
